heCommitteeof100,WorldTradeCenter
ofNewOrleans, and theConsulateofMex-
ico inNewOrleansannounced the renewal
of theGulf States Initiative in2015. The initiative is
comprisedofbusiness leaders from theU.S. states
of LouisianaandMississippi and theMexican states
ofYucatanandCampeche. Theeffortwasan-
nouncedduringameetingconvenedby theConsul
General ofMexico inNewOrleansand theCom-
mitteeof100, Louisiana’sBusinessRoundtable, and
attendedby interestedbusinessandgovernment
representatives from theparticipating states.
Themeetingwasafirst-step inworking toward
a renewal of theGulf StatesAccordunderanew
model emphasizing support from theprivate sector.
Support for themeetingcame fromCommitteeof
100member-companies, includingPanAmerican
Life Insurance, FowlerRodriguez lawfirm,Ochsner
HealthSystem, JonesWalker lawfirm, thePortof
NewOrleans, andChaseBank.
TheGulfStatesAccordTaskForcewillwork to
developeconomicopportunitiesandbusiness
exchangesbetween thestates in the followingareas:
• Maritime/Ports: Includingstatessharing theGulf
ofMexicowith import/exportactivityconducted
viaports located in theirrespectivestates.
• Oil/Gas: Identifying interestedparties inbringing
U.S. technologyand investment toexpand the
oil andgas sector inMexico followingchanges
authorizedby theMexicangovernment toopen
theMexicanoil andgas sector tooutside invest-
ment andbusinessopportunities.
• HealthCare: LinkingU.S. healthcarefirms tohealthcare
operatives inMexico tobring technologyand services to
Mexicanhealthcareproviders.
• WaterManagement/Coastal Erosion: Engaging thegovern-
ment andprivate sector interestsoncoastal issues in research,
technologyandapplications.
• Woodproducts: Promoting the saleofMexicanwood
products in theU.S.
• Used constructionequipment&parts: Addressing the
demand forusedequipment for the construction industry
inMexico.
Asamemberof theGulf States InitiativeTaskForce, The
WorldTradeCenterofNewOrleansadministratedabusi-
nessmatchmakingprocessover thepast year that culminated
inbusinessmeetings in theUSAandMexico. TheMississippi
ManufacturersAssociation, alongwith theCommitteeof100
andWorldTradeCenterofNewOrleans, alsocoordinateda
Gulf StatesTradeMission toMexico inMay2015.
Given the significant role that theU.S.GulfCoast statesand
theMexicanGulf statesplay in theenergy industry, there is rea-
son toestablishanongoing forumwith theappropriateMexi-
cancounterparts to seekopportunities forbusinessexchange.
As the rulesand regulations for theenergy sector inMexico
havechanged toallow formore foreign investment, theTrade
Mission servedasavehicle for
businessexchange focusingon
theoil andgas industry.
